Hey,
Since it started snowing here in Chicago Im getting stuck alot in back alleys so I figured ill just get snow tires. Now I found snow tires they are 205/45/17 now would they fit in my contours? right now Im running 225(235 rear)/45/17... Another question is, is it better to have wider tires during the winter or not?

Thanks
Tom

How about 255/40/17 would they fit? My car is lowered a little bit in the front but never had problems with my 225/45 and the person who had the car before me had 235/50 in the front.

Best Regards
Tom

No 255 tires! If your rim is 7J x 17 , you should not run more than 215. You have to check your rim dimensions and start from there. Your rims are probably 7.5J x 17 and that shoud work perfectly with 225 tire. The reason why you shouldn't run wider tire on a narrow rim is because the tire will be rounded and it will loose its performance.

It's better to have 205 winter tires because I ran into a lot of problems (mostly when slowing down) in snow and I have 225 on (sport package). Althought they are summer tires, but for winter, the smaller the rim, the bigger the side wall and the thinner the tire you have the better.

$250 for 4 dunlop m2 used 2x 7/32 and 2x 9.5/32 they are 11/32 when new. is that a good deal?

I pretty much want em for only one season, after what amount of thread loss will I notice traction loss?

Thanks
Tom
