I'm looking at a 93 318is with 127K miles on it for my daughter. It's is pretty good shape - no rust, corrosion, dents, ec. It's an auto and the trans is less than smooth but it may have been a bit clunky when it was new also. Asking price is $6900 but the owner will deal on that.

Can anyone tell me what to look for on this vintage 3 series with the 4 cyl/auto combination? That is, were there any known issues of particularly high wear items?

TIA,
Scott

hello and welcome,

i don't know what to tell you to look for in a 4cyl/auto. all the '93 318iS's came with cloth or leatherette, a feature that wasn't around in 92. thats all i can really think of.

good luck to you, and if you have any more specific questions let us know.

oh one last note, 6900 is kind of high imho.

I'd maybe worry about conrtol arm bushings? I have a 92 with 150k on it, and the bushings are pretty shot on it. I just ordered some new ones(mmm urethane) for 60 bucks so thats not bad.

I think the owner before me though beat the crap out of the car though. Its got some loose wiring somewhere that causes the lights to flicker. The diff leaks. The front main crank seal leaks. My door panal is cracked (and now in the trunk). The drivers side door doesn't want to open sometimes from the outside.

I paid 3500 for it, which was a pretty good deal considering the problems, and those problems aren't too expensive to fix.

Is the car at a dealership or private?
