1994 BMW 540 -- any good?

Hello all:

New here. Have the chance to buy a 94 540 from a private party.

Nice condition, engine replaced at 20K under factory recall, now has 116K, new tires, A/C compressor, & struts.

What problems should I be looking for?

The big issue would have been the Nikasil block, but seeing that that has been taken care of I would have it inspected. Look at suspension items, exhaust, and check the condition of the fluids. Oh yes and Welcome to the board!

VIN # - records check

Thanks for quick reply. I've been doing research on the net all evening & I think I'm well versed in the engine block issue warranty repair.

Do you happen to know if a BMW dealer can/will use the VIN # to pull up repairs done & will this pull up repairs done at any BMW dealer or are maintenance records dealer specific? I would hope any dealer could punch in a VIN # & get a maintenance history of "dealer" repairs but I'm not sure.

Anyone know the answer?

Call BMW NA and ask them. When I purchased my M roadster used they told me about the repairs and that they had been kept up to date.
