I need to purchase a radar detector, but BMW says I can not use one or it will void the warranty. WHY? what will it do? Is there a unit that will work without voiding the warranty?????

Welcome to the forum.

That is certainly the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. No radar detector will void your warranty. Pickup an Escort Passport 8500 X50 or a Valentine One and that's all there is to it. Who even told that a radar detector would void the warranty?

I spoke with the service manager today and he said it will void the warrnty. This car has a lot of electronic stuff built in. GPS Alarm, phone, security (high), plus many more.
Since I still have a warranty I do not want to loss it.
Thanks

Dude...all you do is buy a radar detector and plug the power cord into your cigarette lighter adapter and the radar works. The radar detector has NOTHING to do with your warranty and has NO way to void the warranty.

I dont mean to laugh, but that is crazy. It's like saying you cant by a stearing wheel cover either cause it will void your warranty. Come one man think. Get a nice radar detector for yourself and you'll be fine.

You Service Manager is BS'ing you. What happens if you plug a cell phone into the cigarette lighter plug........uh oh........BOOM...Just kidding, seriously unless you plug a microwave oven into the plug they cannot void your warranty. Why put the lighter plug there in the first place. Tell this "service manager" you want that in writing.

You're not going to loose your warranty over a simple radar detector. It has a built in fuse and the unit itself doesn't emit any signals so there is no way it will ruin your cars electronics.

Like Emile stated, either the Escort Passport or Valentine One would suit you nicely. I myself currently own a V1 and couldn't be happier.

Just make sure you mount it at the IR film opening on the windshield. It's the little lighter area near the bottom center of your windshield.
