Hi, the cylinder head on my 1981 528i has cracked in two places. Since it is an aluminum head, an aircraft machine shop can weld it up for me for about $275-$350 CDN. My other option is to purchase a head from a local wrecker that is guaranteed not to be cracked or warped for $350 CDN.

The only problem with buying the one from the wrecker is that i dont know how the valves will be and such. If I get the cracked head welded up, then i know a bit about the head.

Is it best to go with the weld and re-machine of the head that is cracked OR buy the head from the wrecker that isn't cracked or warped? Do you think the valves will be crap?

Help me out please. Thanks!
