Since I'm new to the BMW world I have a lot of questions and have been trying to read as many posts as possible to get my information. That being said I have been looking at posts on other BMW discussion boards regarding replacing the O2 sensor with sensors from other makes/models. Is there a replacement sensor that is an exact match for the BMW O2 sensor. I've heard that Dodge & Ford 5.0 will work. I can't find the BMW models they are for though.

TIA

Did you know that your bimmer has 4 O2 sensors? Do you know which one is bad? And, the front 2 are the same as the after 2. Also, for what its worth, the connections for the front 2 on top of the engine are reversed. the plug for bank 1 is the one closest to the firewall. the plug for bank 2 is the forward one.

No- his car only has one O2 sensor. 96's and up have 4 due to the switch to OBDII. I wouldnt screw around with swapping different makers parts- go to bavauto.com, pay the $130 and call it a day

Actually a lot of you are wrong. Wow a lot of wrong posts recently, what's going on? automotive newbie week?

All oxygen sensors that are made by bosch are german. Just becuase its made for a ford, doesnt make it an american product. It's probably the exact same oxygen sensor. I had an oxygen sensor that I had to cut and splice the wires to my existing connector. $40 and it worked flawlessley. It even output the exact same voltages the OEM (read: 3 times more expensive) o2 sensor put out. Meaning - the sensor is EXACTLY the same. The connector isn't.
