I have a 93 325i with the original radio. Last night it suddenly stopped producing sound. The radio itself appears to be working properly, i.e., it will switch stations, bands, play the CD from the CD changer, 'ST' still appears in FM, but nothing is coming out of the speakers. I suspect it could be an amplifier or alternator problem. Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Thanks.

When the radio is turned on it signals the amp and antenna amp to turn on via a 12V output on the white wire to each. If this voltage is pulled low <10V - e.g. shorted wire, defective ant. amp or amp then there will not be any audio. Check with a VOM at the amp in trunk or ant. amp in left c-pillar. Isolate cause if output is less than 10V with radio on.
