hi, guys i just bought a 94 325is, 5-speed, i am fairly new to the Bmw scene. Any suggestions on what kind of mods should i do which will tend to help the engine, i was leaning towards a intake system and midpipe to eliminate the cats. can u guys help me out to maybe find these parts....

Welcome to the Board! You can check out our sponsors in the "Marketplace" section of this site for aftermarket performance parts. I think the only way to remove the cats and replace it with plain pipe is a muffler shop, but I am not sure this is a good idea. I would get a catback system before removing the converters and installing straight pipe.

325is

actually i was thinking, that i leave the stock exhaust system and just put on the straight pipe, because if you put exhaust and the midpipe its just going to be way to loud for streets. i have looked around but cannot seem to find the midpipe, do they make them for e36 or do you have to get a custom one done through a regular muffler shop. also you think its a good idea to purchase one of those ebay cold air intakes or not.....

Don't go with an E-bay intake. Jim Conforti intake is the only way to go. Also get the chip with it. That is the best intake on the market.

Did you get a "Brake Circuit Failure" warning, if not it is most likely NOT the problem. I had the brake circuit failure and my brake lights still worked. Sounds more like you have a blown fuse and/or two lamps out. Check the fuse first.

BMW's cats are 99% free flowing, removing it won't do a damn thing except make it louder. Anywhere you read, you'll see that nobody really can improve on bmw's exhaust designs, except to make it louder or have a better sound. Get a Conforti chip, you'll be so happy it, plus your gas mileage will improve.

Also replace the normal things, plugs, belts, etc. You'll be surprised how much new sparkplugs will help.

BTW The brake circuit thing is common on e36's. The plastic twist in thing for the brake or tail lights has a few failure points, mostly the soldier contacts.

Also they tend to break if you put a little bit too much pressure on them, so be careful not to pull it to one side while twisting the light bulbs out or you'll break the plastic stuff and will either need to get a new tail light assembly or use tape to secure that one light some how.
