98 328i Wiper Problems

New to the forum.

Just got a '98 328i and loving every minute of it. Unfortunately, I've got an intermittent problem with the wiper. While driving, for no reason at all, it would turn on, then after a few seconds it will turn off (sometimes in the middle of the windshield blocking my view) and will not turn on again. If I turn off the ignition the wiper will go back in "park" and after a while it will turn on again.

I haven't looked into the wiper motor or the relay yet but if anyone had this experience I would appreciate any help to save me time in hunting for a solution.

I haven't experienced this, but I can give some clues for you and others here to ponder. I think the bimmers, like most cars, have a PARKED switch which disconnects power to the motor when they are in the parked position. If that switch or wiring is flaky, this could happen.

It could be what kirby said - but also could be the relay. I'd probably check that out first.
