My wife and I have started our search for a 5-Series. We found a 99 528it with the following equipment:

Equipment
Air Conditioning ABS Brakes
Power Steering Leather Seats
Air Bag(s) AM/FM/Cassette/CD
Power Windows Power Locks
Power Seat(s) Power Mirrors
Alloy Wheels Cruise Control
Rear Defroster Rear Wiper
Sunroof Roof Rack

The car has 57,000 miles on it and is silver with black interior. The dealer is asking just under $19,000 for the car.

My questions:

1. How fair is that price? It is a "no haggle" dealer, so the price is take it or leave it.

2. Are there any issues that I should be aware of with that year and model?

3. Does the station wagon body type affect handling or performance?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, there. I just bought a 1999 528i automatic with the premium package with exactly 59K miles for $18,700 from a private party. It has leather, moonroof, ac, ps, 5 air bags and all the options. The only thing it does not have is a CD player. I know yours is the touring, but it sounds like a good deal. I love mine. Happy driving! [:I]

I used to have a '99, 528iT: the best BMW I have ever owned!
Great car, never went in the shop, never needed any tire adjustments or used a drop of oil. Wish they were all made that way. Go for it!

if you buy that car, plan on replacing the water pump and thermostat immediately. at 60k miles, they start to break down. other than that, i think you are in good shape. i would shop around some more maybe. could save you a grand or 2 if you look for another week or 2
