I was just told by my dealer that the 545 will have an all wheel drive option beginning around March or April. What do you guys know about this? Sorry if this has been discussed before...I tried a search but nothing came up.

BMW announced that the previous-generation 5-series (E39 model) would have AWD but they never put it on. Honestly, I really doubt it. Although AWD is certainly a nice all-weather convenience, BMW is obsessed with RWD the way Audi is obsessed with Quattro AWD.
If I actually knew otherwise, I would say "possibly", but I really haven't heard/read/seen anything regarding an AWD 5-series so I highly doubt it.

If you're worried about a BMW in the snow, if you get a good set of snow tires for the winter, it will do fine with good, careful driving.

My dealer told me that the 525 and 530 but NOT the 545 would have all wheel drive as an option within the next year (probably spring). They are apparently taking orders

That is interesting, I still do not believe the dealership, though. Dealerships always make these kinds of mistakes and they are probably doing this to rack in some orders and then when they finally "brake the news" to these customers with ordered cars, most customers will just say "Okay fine, I'll take it" anyways.

I would seriously question the point of making an AWD 5-Series. It creates more understeer in the dry and is really only more effective in very wet conditions or on dirt roads.

I hope they don't make it.

I hope they do, but in a non-forced way. That would be awesome for people who deal with snow. The average BMW owner does NOT purchase snow tires and shit because it's generally not very economically worth it. But if there were available "xi" models for the 5-series where you get AWD and all-season tires, that would make for an awesome all-weather driver. I understand that AWD provides a bit of understeer at the limit, but the advantages of AWD are definitely worth it for a lot of people.
