Hey everyone. Newbie to the forum. This looks like the place to talk beemers though.

I'm looking at options for upgrading the software on my new baby. A 1996 328is, 82k miles, 5sp, white with grey interior.

From what I have been reading, the Conforti Shark injector seems like one of the most popular upgrades for the e36 328s. Although I have also read of a few mishaps while installing it. I really want to pull a little more juice out of my 328 as well as increase the rev limit, but not at the expense of screwing up my perfectly running BMW.

Any input would be appreciated. [wave]

im here....ive got one. i love it. match it up with the conforti cai as they are designed to go together and you will see the most gains. installation was very easy.just have someone looking at the lights on the injector while you are in the car turning the key and such. the most important thing is to make sure you have a battery charger. you dont want the battery to die in the middle of the download. then you will have big problems.

Thanks both of you for the info. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go for it. Vance, how do you like your Borla Cat-Back exhaust? I'm looking to do the software along with the cai and exhaust at the same time. I'm looking for an exhaust system that has a deeper tone. I can't stand those high pitched leaf blower sounding exhaust kits...

@johnnnnyj

another cheap way to upgrade your 328 performance is to buy an induction-brigde from a M50B25. It has more cross-section as the M52/54B28 original bridge. Maybe from the scrapmerchant...

Can the Shark Injector be used on multiple vehicles? I'm looking to make a group purchase, but if it "locks" itself to one vechicle, or needs to store vehicle specific info, then it wouldn't really be a good group purchase. Anyone know?

DO NOT try and install the shark injector on more than one vehicle... its not worth the money... I'm not a tech guy or anything.. but I think it kills the like between upload point and the computer sys. Had a guy try that with mine... not cool...

Thanks for the tip Looky. Sounds interesting... I'll have to investigate that a bit further. Does it set off any warnings on your OBC?

Oh yeah... And thanks for the lesson in BMW vernacular Adrean. Now I know.

no... in our club we're running two 328 with the M50B25 intake manifold. there're no warnings...
In addition you can buy a expensive part from http://www.kormanfastbmw.com/e36ind.htm
(Schrick Performance Intake Manifold for BMW M52 2.8 & 3.2)

The M50 intake manifold has nearly the same cross-section as the aluminum part from schrick.

No No No... what I meant... was... it damages the port between where you "plug" in the shark injector... the 'diagnotic port'... and the actual ECU. Sorry for the confussion...

It think (and I use "think" very loosely) the injector is a flash reprograming component that takes the information that is on your ECU.. and exchanges it with its own programing. Thus, if you try to install it on another car... you are exchanging information that is coded by BMW for your car alone. Some one please correct me if I'm wrong.. as I dont exactly know everything about the injector.. I will email Jim C. and see if he can give me a descripive answer.. and I will get back to you all. Sorry for the confusion.
