Auto Trans, No First Gear or OD, Check Light - HELP!

I was driving around today and a check lite came on.. Looks like a GEAR and a (!) inside. Now i have no first gear, or OD. I have to drive it like a manual and when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd its NASTY harsh!

Its ok if i shut it off and drive it around BUT as long as i dont try to get it to go above 3rd gear. Then the light comes on and i lose first gear too!!

HELP PLEASE!

Oh yeah, its a 95 325i with 115K

It's running in safe mode. The transmission computer detected a problem and is trying to let you "limp to the dealer". You need to stop driving it and have it checked out.

It could be a minor electrical problem, or you could be screwed......
