Axle weight

When I imported my car from the States I had to get it inspected in order to get it registered in Canada.
Part of it was weighing the car.
The front axle weighs 1950lbs and at the back axle it weighs 2425lbs.
Almost 500lbs heavier on the back than in the front.
I thought that was strange as the engine is in the front I thought the front should be heavier.
And 4400lbs?? is it really that heavy?
Its a convertible, does that add weight?

Nope, it's not that heavy. Either the scale was out of calibration, or it was not weighed properly. From BMW's web site, an E46 convertible weighs 3637 lbs. I am certain that the E36 is within a few hundred pounds of the E46. There is simply no way your car weighs 4400 lbs - my Suburban weighs 5700 lbs and is all but twice as big.

That is what I thought.
It lists it as Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. Is that a rating of the car and maximum weight it can carry?

2nd What is heavier on an unladen 328i, the back or the front axles?

the balance is, like most new bmw's, in the 50.1/49.9 or 49.9/50.1 range, but i can't remember it exactly, i'll find it in one of my references
