I need your help again! Do you know if I have to go with a battery from BMW ($130.00) or can I go to any car store and buy a generic battery? I assume all batteries are the same 12 volts?

Please help.

Thanks

Yes, just make sure to match your CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) with the weather in your area... N.C. shouldn't get too cold so a 800 CCA battery should do you fine. The 600 CCA batterys are pretty cheesy and the 1000-1200 are overkill (unless you live in the great white north, eh?)

Also, the battery you purchase needs to have the posts in the same location as the battery you are replacing... you don't say what year your car is, but the posts should be on top... ensure your new battery also has the posts on top... If you buy a high quality battery, it might have both top posts and side terminals. Just be sure to leave the plastic caps in the side terminals when not used.

Good luck and see ya at Wal-Mart.

Thanks Krafy. It turns out that BMW actual warrent the battery for 4yr/50k My car was under warrenty so they are replacing it free of charge. Not bad when the deal it charging $130.00 for the battery and $80.00 to install it. Yes I did say $80.00 to install it. Robbing bastards!!! Another 10K miles and I would have been at Wal-Mart!

330i and like it said:

I could never get a battery for my Volvo at any of the department stores. They are not a common size, and they don't sell enough of them. I had to go to an auto parts store. I'm guessing that WalMart won't have one to fit a BMW, it looks like an odd size too, but I could be wrong. Anybody ever get one from WalMart?
