Up until 2005, BMW Assist was not compatible with Bluetooth. Both our 2004 X5 4.4i, 4.8is and my both my 2004 330cics came with factory installed Bluetooth & BMW assist, I was even given a Bluetooth passkey (password). Unfortunatley, until sometime in 2005, BMW couldn't get the 2 to function in harmony.

My 2005 M3 worked "ok" with the 2 systems, and from 2006 and up, we've had no problems at all, with either system.

I'm pretty sure your 2003 5er didn't even come with Bluetooth!

Good Luck.
