Bmw Business Radio Issues???

For whatever reason, my radio in my 2003 325xi died on me. Its going to run me about 550 for a replacement part..looking for some help/advice:

1). Has this happened to anyone else?

2) Anybody have a beat on a place where i can get a replacement part (used) at a better price??

3) Any thoughts on putting a different radio in there - something not BMW made?? Have you done that??

They won't warranty it?
