BMW should re-release the e36 for the new 3 series.

Its such a great car with a timeless design. I think it's the perfect mix between the boxy e30 (which i LOVE) and the newer rounder e46. Now that we all know every single little problem and flaw with the e36 they should just make the same exact car but just fix all the problems. It would be absolutely perfect. It'd be just as great as the original e36's except itd last forever.

it'd be cool, I love the e36 body design too... an e36 that could handle like the e46 would be sweet too... were there major suspension changes between the e36 and the e46?

My girlfriend has an E46 M and I have an E36 M and I think the E36 can be more fun to drive and she agrees. Because it is lighter it is definitely much peppier and more nimble on the road. You feel more in touch with the car. You could argue the E46 feels more stable because you don't feel the road as much but that could be a bad thing too depending on who you talk to. They both stick to the road great. The E46 is a beast that takes a lot of practice to tame. The E46 M is definitely NOT a beginners ride.

While I don't know the exact data comparing these cars, my girlfriend can definitelly smoke my stock e36 off the line. The difference in handling is less obvious. I would say more than anything that they are two different cars with a good driver definitelly being able to take advantage of the E46's rediculous powerplant.

I like the new designs BMW is coming out with, hell, I would die for a new 6 series....those are SWEET!!!!! Eventually change happens, over the years, German cars change FAR LESS than American cars.....the body style anyways.....look at the VW bug, 911, 3 series BMW, Jag, Audi.....but the changes are usually for the better. I would never pay current market BMW 3 series price for a E36 body, it is starting to show its age.....gracefully, like a fine wine.....but even wine after a while gets too old to drink and seperates. Heck, I look at the E46 vert, would trade mine in for a E46 if it was a even trade.....just my 2 cents. But than again, I love the BMW 2002 and the 8 series and the older 6 series......those are my favorite BMW body styles. Took me a while to get used to the water cooled 911 and new body style....but they still retain the roots of the original. Just my 2 cents.

American cars, about the same as far as the Vette, I love the C-5, the C-6, will take some time to get used to. The new Viper, I like the old one better, but would take the new one. Guess just a matter of taste.[;)]

Carcus, I agree with you in some respects but I can honesly say I think the new 6 series is one of the ugliest cars I have ever seen. The new design bares a striking resemblence to the japanese luxury cars. The car looks like a big heavy blob with some curves bent in the sheet metal instead of a tight boxy car with sharp lines and an agressive look which is what I think BMWs should look like. Leave it to an American fo **** up the next generations of BMWs. I know I'm an american, but I can honestly say that I really do hate pretty much all the new american cars. I have respect for the older muscle cars of the 60's and 70's but I dont think there is one new american car that I would like to be driving in. I know they are fast but they just dont have the feel or look you get from a BMW.

Also, I saw that you mentioned "jag" in with the German cars... I know Jaguar is British but I was wondering if it is owned by a German company or if it is a mistake.

I know the Jag is English....well...now mostly American as FLM (Ford Lincoln) bought alot and share the same platform as the crappy Linclon LS.....but just wanted to say most Euro cars change little, even SAAB....they change little also. I was just talking about Euro cars in generel.....they change very little over time.

This is different for newer American cars.

I like USA made cars, they have a few good ones out there, the new LS1 GTO.....Holden helped, the Vette.....will always love them, the Stang....LOVE THE NEW COBRA!!!! That engine puts the E46 M3 to shame...and still love the F-Body......hope it comes back as a RWD V8 MONSTER!!!!

Strangest American crossbreed out there....the (Mercedes have sex with Chrysler....the Crossfire) Imagine Crysler reliability with Mercedes parts......BEND ME OVER NOW!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, just ranting, if I could have 2 cars that are still affordable....

Sunbeam Alpine Tiger
Buick Grand National GNX....well...not really that cheap.

Just blithering, but if you are asking, yep, I know Jag is from the UK. I actually blew up a 87 1/2 XJ6.....slow POS. Comfortable though before it blew the head gasket. Those cars are HEAVY and pretty gutless. [;)]

I grew up around German, british cars (almost forgot Volvo!) I saw my share of Shelby Mustangs, loved driving my Dad's '68 'Vette.
I think the European cars age very gracefully, and seem timeless or classic. Say THAT about a Ford Taurus, or Chev. Celebrity!!!!!!
I'll Buy from Europe every time!!!!
(forgive the Miata purchase-I lost my head)
Great points guys!
"By the way-which one is Pink?"
