Buying a 318i for around 7,000. Seems to be on good condition and it has 140k miles. I was wondering if I should expect to run into any major problems? And how muich would they cost to fix? Is it even worth it to buy a 318 with 140k miles?

me . . . I woundn't buy it . . . look for a 325i . . . it's gonna be better all around . . . not that the 318i is a bad car . . . the 325 would be a better choice . . . motor wise . .318i=1.8L . . 325i=2.5L

the miles are not that bad . . . and seeing your from Cali. . . . . I'm sure you can find a nice 325 . . . some where . . . Good Luck . .

You do not mention year models! I agree with Sean everything else being equal I'd get a 325! However I sold my e30 91 318is for $5500.00 and it was equipped with over $2500.00 worth of extras. That person got a heck of a deal.

sorry year was a 97, ill look for a 325 before I make any choices.
What should I be looking to pay for a 325?

Edit - What about the 323i? That seems a bit more in my price range then a 325.

Detailed Vehicle History Definitions:

Accident
CARFAX receives information on accidents in most states when an official police report is filed. The level of detail in the accident record varies by state depending on the state's accident report requirements. CARFAX recommends you obtain a vehicle inspection from your dealer or an independent mechanic for any car involved in an accident.

First Owner
When the first owner(s) obtains a title from a Department of Motor Vehicles as proof of ownership.

Lease
When someone leases a car from a dealer, the dealer actually sells the vehicle to a leasing company. The leasing company then collects payments for the vehicle from the new owner for 24, 36, 48 or more months. A leasing company can be an independent car dealer or a car manufacturer.

New Owner Reported
When a vehicle is sold to a new owner, the Title must be transferred to the new owner(s) at a Department of Motor Vehicles.

Not Actual Mileage Title
When the seller certifies, under the Truth-in-Mileage Act, that the odometer reading is NOT ACTUAL MILEAGE. This may occur because the disclosed odometer reading was not accurate and verifiable.

318i Good !

Those cars look good. If your getting a 318i, get one with a manual transmission. The 318i is good on gas, and repair costs would be cheaper considering it is a 4cyl model. The E36 325 is an older model (92-95), and doesn't have the digital climate control, older stereo system, and the front skirts are different than 96-98 would have, the newer the better. even though the 325i, and 328i have more power, the 318i is more economical, and will give you lots of gas millage. I own a 96 BMW 318i 5 speed, Blac/black 250,000km, runs like a top still and costs me around $3000 anually for reapirs and service (oil service, inspection) because I drive around 50,000km a year so my car has to go in for service to the bmw dealer atleast 3 to 4 times a year for routine check-ups and inspection.
