I am in the process of changing the timing belt on my 86 325es. I have everything off and am ready to remove the new belt. T

he question I have is should I replace the camshaft seal while I'm in there. I can't tell if is leaking or not, more than likely it is as the timing belt had not been replaced since 1999.

I must say that so far this maintenance has caused some pucker factor and removing the pulley to get to the seal has me a bit worried.

Is it worth it or not? If I don't replace the seal will I just have a minor leak or will it eventually develop into enought of a leak to have to be replaced?

I've never had to replace a cam seal on a M20 before... If you can't tell if it's leaking, it's probably not. It's not worth the time and effort to do it. The amount of oil that will leak through there will be minimal.
