I know that this may sound a little retarded, but what is the difference between the M-series cars and the regular ones. I know that there is a significant difference in the suspension and brakes right? What is the difference with the engines, bigger? what?

the e36 M3 has 240HP with a 3.0L engine. the e36 3series has 190HP from the 2.8L in the 328, 189HP from the 2.5L in the 325, and like 12HP from .2L in the 318

in 1995 the M3 was a 3.0l while the biggest "other 3series" motor was a 2.5, in 96 the M3 was a 3.2l while the biggest "other 3series" motor was a 2.8l. it goes way beyond displacement though.
