Car smell

I've recently discovered a smell similar to an overheated hair dryer that I smell when I get out of the car. I lifted up the hood and there was no smell in the engine, which is good, but around the car. It only does this on days I use manual mode (I dont have Steptronic, I just put it in 'm' and shift). What's the cause? I know this isn't much information. It's got low mileage and the engine isn't overheating, no engine warning lights, nothing is wrong. The smell isn't that bad and goes away in a few seconds but I'm just wondering if its something I should look into. As I said before it rarely does this, only on days I use 'm' mode. Maybe I shouldn't use the 'm' mode anymore?

Thanks.

You dont use "M" all the time, that makes the car stay in the gear longer and messes up your engine in the long run. I dont know of thats connected with the smell tho.
