Check Engine Light

Before I purchased a 98 M3 I was driving it realitively hard to get a feel for it and the check engine light came on. I realize this is related to the emissions of the vehicle and does not need to be serviced right away but just soon. Luckily, I had my inspection done the next day and they told me it had to do with the gas tank. I did not have time for the full diagnostic, but they were able to reset the sensor for me. A couple days ago the sensor came back on. Is this a common occurence, or is it a bad sign for something to come. Any info is appreciated.

it's common. if the car has an issue and you clear the fault code it's only a matter of time before it comes back on. I don't know if your year car has any issues with the gas tank but the first thing I would do is check for recalls. More than likely it's probably just the gas cap not holding pressure. use google to help you find out more on recalls for your car
