I purchased a 98 328i about a month ago. It has 108,000 miles on it. Car has been running excellent, but yesterday the check engine light came on. I didn't notice any difference in the cars performance. I'm thinking its an oxygen sensor. my friend had the same trouble with the same car. any method of getting the code? thanks in advance for any help. i'm new to the bmw's.

it probably is some sensor what i would do since you dont have a scan tool take it to the Autozone if you have one in your area? are you in the US? they will check it and bring up a code its free. Its a starting point then go from there.. [idea]

As 'mankiks323i' suggested, having the error code read (at Autozone or any other place);

One more suggestion, check the gas filler cap. If it's not tightened fully, you will get the cehck engine light as well.

Good Luck

Do you have a laptop? IF so, no one can beat the BR3! It cost $88 shipped and does all the OBDii stuff-reads/resets fault codes, you can see most all engine parameters real time and even log files while driving then play them back.
