I have a 1996 318i that has dual climate control. Well, when I bought the car it didn't work they way I thought it was supposed to. When I set it at 80 on the drivers side and 60 on the passengers side it would just randomly choose onE of the temps and blow it out of both sides.
Now it's been flaking in and out. On my way home from work, the display dims to the point that I can barely see it and at that point I can't turn it off or even adjust any of the settings. Yesterday on the freeway I had the airconditioning on and all of a sudden the display goes out again and the middle vent started blowing out what looked like white smoke. The "smoke" was super super cold and actually created frost on the vent grill. Since the display had dimmed I couldn't turn off the a/c so I closed the vent until it eventually turned itself off while remaining dimmed.
Has anyone had any similar problems with this or have any suggestions as to what it might be? It is going to cost me $150 to run a diagnostic on it just to see what the problem is.
