Hi,

I have a question regarding clutch chatter which I get in the first gear. My
mechanic just changed the clutch (BMW Clutch Kit 95 318is) and now when I
shift into first gear I get clutch chatter, (very noticeable) this chatter continues until I shift into a second gear. When I release the clutch pedal very slowly the clutch chatter is not as bad. The guy said that he machined flywheel so now I
got no idea what is wrong. Could it be a loose transmission mount? This only happens in the first gear, the other gears are fine. Also when I drive on slippery
surface the chatter is not as noticeable, probably because I get less traction.

Thanks for any advice,

Mario

That is really strange. Usually, you'd get chatter when you release the pedal slowly.

It's chattering even after your foot is off of the clutch? It chatters all the way until you change to second? I get some chatter once in a while, usually when I'm releasing the clutch pedal too slowly, but it NEVER chatters when my foot is off the clutch pedal.

If it's chattering when your foot is not on the clutch pedal, it may not really be clutch chatter - it could be a loose/misaligned/faulty throwout bearing.

Problem solved

Hi Justin,

Thanks for the advice. I went back to the mechanic and it turned
out that the problem was not with the clutch. A rubber boot that
connects MAF to the throttle body was broken and that caused the
problem. When I had my old clutch it was slipping and once I put in
the new clutch the engine just did not have enough power in the first gear.

Thanks,

Mario
