My '98 540i has a dead coolant temp guage. The needle sits at midpoint and never moves a bit. Is the sensor driving this guage screwed into the motor right next to the upper radiator hose? Is this a common problem due to a bad sensor, wiring or gauge? It seems like the gauge is getting no sensing voltage or bad ground.
