Did you remove the honeycomb when debaffling your intake?

Whoever had the car before me must have done this mod. The snorkel and the baffle are both gone. I did notice that on the intake tube that connects to the intake box that it has a plastic honey comb piece in the end of it. Did any of you remove this?

I have no digital camera to take pics. I was looking at the tube again there is an insert at the front of the tube with 1/8th inch squares then behind the MAF sensor there is another insert with 3/8th to 1/2 inch squares. I assume there there to smooth out the air flow.
