DVD Nav installation

Hi - just bought 03 530 i M-Sport and I noticed it has a bracket mounted above the 6-cd changer in the trunk. I believe it is for a DVD Nav system. My father in law (97 540i) has a DVD Nav system that he is not using off his car and he offered it to me 'gratis'.

My questions are: 1. Will it fit, 2. Is it possible to dealer-install a DVD screen after the fact in the front, and 3. Is there a requirement for a GPS antenna and if so, is it feasible have installed?

Sorry for the lack of knowledge, but if it is possible to install these things, I might just be able to save some $$$. Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks!

Hello HC!

You should check first if the wiring & connectors are there ( look under the cd changer in the trunk). If you are lucky enough to have that option pre-wired from the factory, then go and ask the dealer about, in order to preserve the car warranty, if any. I assume you can't use the 540i original screen on your car, so be prepared for extra $ to add a new TFT screen (7") on your convenience in the console area.

More, if the 97/540i has the small navigation screen (like me), the dealer should know better if you can use a bigger one. I will be also interested myself about how to add another screen in the front right seat area, as far I was ordering the car pre-wired with the small navigation - radio screen in the front console.
