Hey all, I bought my 320i roughly 2 weeks ago and I have noticed a couple of problems. If you guys could help me out I would appreciate it.

1. The A/C leaks, But I am taking to the guy I bought the car from and he's gonna fix it. The real problem is that When it is on it causes the engine to over heat. I know from reading forums that the E36 it's common for the engine to overheat due to things like a cracked plastic thermostat housing. I have looked for cracks but cant find any. I did notice that the Aux fan does not work, actually its ceased and this pops a fuse every time. I took the fan out and got it loose and workin with the help of WD40, however it has ceased again. Could it be just the aux fan? or somthin else as well?

2. The shifter when it is in gear is quite sloppy ( it move around a lot) is this normal wear and tear on the plastic bushing and is it easy to fix?

3. When I am driving and in gear regardless of the speed/RPM the engine will preform fine then all of a sudden just like lose its balls (for lack of a better saying) and then it will kick back in. Could this be like a tune up issue? or somthin else? like I know my drive belt needs to be replaced but I dont think that would cause it.

4. My cluch is very high. Is that easy to adjust or can it even be adjusted?

Well thats the most noticeable problems I have found for my BMW so far. I wanted to get a better exhaust for it but apparently the only place that knows my model(95 320i) exists is BMW, and I have the feeling that for even a stock exhaust at the dealership would be pricey. Any thoughts on that? Well anything you guys that can help, be it with my problems or just general info on my 320 (info is hard to come buy) it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I don't know the answers to all of your questions, in fact I am not completely sure about the ones I think I know, but here it goes.

1. The cooling system actually has a fail safe or two on it that would usually prevent the car from overheating but when there is air in the system or no coolant at all, none of them work. When the engine driven fan can't cool the radiator enough, the temperature in the radiator rises to about 90 degrees celcius at which point the Aux fan comes on and saves the day. The Aux fan also comes on when the AC is on to cool down the AC radiator but when it is stuck like yours, the AC radiator just helps heating up the main radiator, thus making it harder for the engine driven fan to cool it and once again causing the temperature to rise. If it runs fine without the AC then most deffinately the only thing wrong is the Aux fan.

2, 4. I am not fortunate enough to have a manual so I can't help yoiu with that.

3. Never happened to me so I never really payed attention to what it could be, good luck though.
