after doing some looking around it seems I have one of 2 options for uping the e36 m3 engines horsepower for strong roadracing duity.

option 1:
cams, AFM, chip, injectors, header, exhaust
cost @$4500+ for parts

option 2:
euro spec engine
cost @$7000+

I guess my question is which way would you go?
I am leaning towards the euro spec engine since it offers improved reliabuility over a modified factory set US up.
I have also came to the conclusion that the euro spec engine uses a mechanical lifer as opposed to the us specs hydo set up. I think the lifers are holding the us spec engine back from making more power threw higher revs, along with the single vanos, and single throttle body set up. You see where I am going here right?

Why don't you see more euro spec swaps instead of upgrading the us spec engine to the gills to in the end still have less power than a euro spec?

Could you list known sources for the euro spec engine, and any available information on the swap would be helpfull in making the final decision as well.

thanks for your time and any info you can provide:)

edit: this is a race only car (no tags), so emissions, and streetability are a mute point.
