E36 vs E46

Hi all,
I'm a nubee, obviously by the question I have. I'm considering purchase of a 1999 3281ac that has a "build date" of 11/98. Is this car an E36 or E46? How do you tell the difference?

That would be an e46 according to the build date, but what is a "1ac"? Is that meant to be a 328i?

Dan, if it's a convertible, it would be an E36. But it's hard to tell what model it is from the info given....

Sorry........I'm not the best typist, It is a 328ic automatic.

If it's a 328ic, then it's a convertible, and a build of 11/98 makes it an E36. The convertible typically changes platforms 6 months to a year after the sedan and coupe.

I did buy the car and it does need a few things so I'm sure I'll be back a lot for advice.
What a fun car to drive......I've had a few Corvettes back in the 70's an a couple of Mercedes in the 80's, but none felt as good as this to drive.

Hey congratulations on the Car.
I just picked up a 99 328ic
It is a E36 as well as the convertible did not change untill 2000.
