ECM DME - What is it ?????

i did the check engine light test and it says that my ecm or dme which ever one you want to call it is messed up, could anything else be triggering this fault to come up, also is the ecm thewhole thing? or is it just a chip? could i just buy one of those aftermarket chips to replace the messed up ecm>? could anyone help please thanks

which DME do you have in your E36? DME 3; DME 3.1;..........?
--> construction-annual?
--> modell?

it's better to read out the fault codes of your car to diagnose the fault in more narrowly radius.

In some cases you have the possibility to flash your EEPROM in your DME so you can see whether it's the chip... or the fault is in other parts in the DME.

DME = D igitale M otor E lektronik = digital engine electronic... i think it's the same like the ECM(Engine Control Module). DME is more german and ECM more engl.

Or do u have any other misunderstandings?
