fried ignition rotor

had a rough running engine the past two weeks, like a misfire or bad plug.
finally got a chance to look at it and started with the distributor cap and rotor.
when I took off the cap, the rotor looked like the electrode on the tip had exploded.(I'll try post a pic.) my wife drives the car most of the time, I have a truck for work. she tells me that the car was boosted by a friend because of a dead battery. could this have caused the rotor to grenade itself?
I'm surprised the car even started with the damage to the rotor. the cap seems ok.
anyone seen this before? is there another problem that I am missing? thanks for any info.

The rotor was probably just bad, or wet. Just replace the rotor AND the cap. Might as well get both new. I'd also look at some kind of sealer.
