Woah, new fuel pump every 6 months?!

If you are buying cheap aftermarket pumps they are probably to nasty to hold up to daily driving.

and which pump? the intank one or the out of tank pump?

Too much crap in the bottom of the tank clogging it up? Either that it's pushing too hard on a clogged fuel filter and burning itself out? Who makes the pump?
There is a lot small particals in the fuel tank I wonered about that. It is a in tank fuel pump.I used to buy from bmw and the same thing happend so I went to the standard pump from auto zone.

There is another problem somewhere - even cheap pumps shouldn't go that often - maybe one, but not again and again.

I think you should take the pump to a fuel specialist and get them to tell you what caused it to die.

Otherwise you will need to start looking at things like crud in your tank (is the tank corroding and the pump continually picking up rust?). Pull one of the dead pumps apart - is it clean?

Whining fuel pump

I recently bought a used fuel pump and installed it. It works well so far, feels stronger than my old fuel pump, but makes an annoying high-pitched whine so I am reluctant to leave it in the car for very long.

Question: Is this fuel pump about to give out? Is there any other risk in using a pump making a whining noise?

How long has it been making the whining noise?
Since I bought the car about a year and a half ago.

Just how many pumps have you been through? Do you replace your fuel filter at service? any strain on the fuel pump is going to limit its life slightly quicker. Like big daddy said, do you always have a full tank of "gas" (or at least not on the fuel light all the time) to cool the fuel pump (prolonging fuel pump life)?
