Gas Problem

Alright,
I got a 92 325i BM. The majority of the time that i start my car, i smell the scent of gas. While i was driving, a friend told me the scent was coming from the left side of the back. I was wondering can anybody give me any feedback to what might be the problem? PLEASE HELP

Mine is the same way, and on a rainy day if you look on the ground where your car has been you can see the rainbow colors where gas has dropped. I think it might be caused by an old dirty fuel filter, but i have yet to change it.
