hard steering - no return of wheel

Hi,

My steering is reall stiff and the wheel does not return to the center position, I always have to bring it back after a turn. Could a faulty steering rack cause this? Or maybe my PS fluid is just gooky, I've yet to check it but I read that it can dry out or what not over time and become really dense.

Sounds like you are on the right track. PS fluid should be changed every other year like any fluid. Is you PS pump making any noise?

just checked it, the fluid is liquid and no I don't hear the PS pump at all. I think I have the worst case in which I have to change out the steering rack.
