Headers on M52

Planning to install headers on my M52. Is there any real feeling/advantage or are they only another noise add like the K&N cone filters.

BTW, yesterday I removed my K&N element and replaced it by the OEM paper filter, there are many documents talking about premature engine wear due to the use of this kind of filters, this combined with the addition of no power gain.

From what I have heard the headers that BMW installs on their cars are so good that replacing them does not add much benefit.

The questions arises when you observe the M3 headers. They looks more like the ones you find everywhere as a performance add than the ones my M52 has. [???1]
