does any one else have this problem. it doesnt do this all the time, it has to be one for 20 minuets or so before it starts. and then if i adjust the speed, it will stop or change its pitch. i know its the fan because if i turn it off it stops. !?!?!?!?![?|]

i think it has something to do with the temperature, but i'm not entirely certain. i bought my car in may, and i NEVER heard a squeak until driving from vancouver (BC) to calgary in august.

i was doing an all-night white knuckler (heh) and about 4 or 5 in the morning the outside temp had dropped down to about 4 degrees celcius.

that's when i first heard the squeak.

then it went away again until this winter. i eagerly await the arrival of spring to see if the squeak goes away. it was 16 above here the other day, and i didn't hear it, but the temperature up here at this time of year is up and down SO much that it's hard for me to keep track of when it was cold or warm and if the squeak was there.

but when it's -30 it's guaranteed to squeak, but it seems the warmer it gets outside the less it squeaks.

i should say that mine squeaks only intermittantly, not all the time. i would say it's quiet about 75% of the time.

Mine makes a sound if running for awhile on the 3 setting and switch down to 2 setting. Has to run for awhile first though.
No clue, just glad I'm not the only one I guess.
Anyone have some thoughts here?

yeah, mine has to get warm i think...it doesnt start right away. and i can get it to go away after switching the speed around for a while. sounds like bmw makes some bad blowers/fans. maybe we should cause an uproar and make them replace the fans for free!

i had that problem in my 84 e28, it was in fact the blower.

in my car the bearing had come a part from the squirell cage fanblade and was riding irregularly on th motor's shsaft.

so i glued the outer racer back to the blade. let dry and then took some mild grease to it and i haven't had a problem since.
