I was driving my '94 325i c this afternoon, exited the highway and my car killed upon slowing down and the "check engine" light turned on. Now it starts and revs and sounds fine but once I let off the gas it kills every time and cannot be driven. Any ideas?

All the vitals are fine, is this some sort of sensor?? Please help, car is currently sitting in a parking lot of a greek restaurant....

Thanks in advance!!!

I just had the oxygen sensor replaced a few months ago.

But lkast time I had it replaced the engine would rev up and down and run a little rough, but I was still able to drive it. Why would it be worse this time?

I just spoke with a BMW mechanic. He thinks it is likely either the idle control valve or or the master airflow reader....

Has anyone ever had to replace either of these, and if so--how much $$$$?

i think...it isn't the master airflow reader.... if it's damaged, the DME runs with an emergency programm so you could drive without problems and the engine runs on fixed values which are saved in the DME (in my car-software the master airflow reader is disabled too.)

just read out the fault codes and you'll be on the save side bevore replacing expensive parts...

Look for the fault codes, great idea. You MAF has a hose underneith it that has no clamp. It's rare that they fall off but they can, it did on mine and I had the exact same problem. Real easy to check, just feel underneith your MAF for a little hose and make sure it's there.

have codes checked at a autozone free. It sounds like a camshaft position sensor parts run around 80.00 up to 100 dollars there are two of them may be the intake one. my two cents worth

A friend of mine had almost the same issue ... it was fixed only when I've replaced the camshaft position sensor. .. I don't remember to pay more than 50USD and the installation is quite easy (for the 318). From my experience, if the O2 sensor is not working properly then the engine will really function in a heretic way!
The best is to test it in a BMW garage … they will tell you exactly what to do and the test will cost 10 USD (this is how much I’ve paid in Romania)

As it turns out, it was the Mass Airflow Sensor after all.

The car would not hold an idle at all...anyway, long story short--instead of purchasing the new part from a mechanic for $400 plus labor, I bought a used one for around $50 and installed it myself (took less than five minutes). Now she is running smooth once again.

Thanks for everyone's input on this...
