okay, so those crafty germans have won this battle, but not the war!!

im trying to replace my brake pads on my 328i (front and back). so i printed out 2 different sets of instructions, got everything together, lifetime warranty brake pads, im ready to have some fun.
i never got past the first step. the tire wouldnt come off! [?|] i got the lug nuts off, the car was up on jack stands, but the tires must be corroded onto the car, because they will not budge. im thinking im may need a tire puller, or maybe there is something im overlooking.
anyone run into this embarrasing [V] situation before?
also, i knew the pads were wearing thin because my mechanic told me they were getting to the point of needing replacement, but now, the dreaded censor has spoken. all casual driving will now stop, cease, and desist! [boxface]
thanks for the help guys [wiggle]

just kick the tire as hard as you can or take a sledge hammer and hit the tire on the other side (not the rim) it should pop off. hit it repeatedly, hard. This happens at the garage i work at on saturdays all the time. hope you get it off. you shouldn't need a wheel puller.

Just be careful that you don't knock the car off the jack/jackstands when kicking the wheel or hitting the tire with a hammer. Another thing you could try would be to put all the lug bolts back in, snug them up and loosen each one a little bit. Then slowly lower the jack to put some load on the wheel. This should also break the wheel loose from the rotor. Just be careful and do things slowly.

I agree, when replacing the tires on my 328IC, I had frozen on rims, kicked them, they came off, but resulted in me bending the jack and a possible dangerous situation. Being the idiot I am, I continued to remove the rest of the rims...with the bent jack. Damn....I was stupid for doing that.[:(!]

Just curious as to why you didn't post a more specific post. I think your ilk would get many more replies to your post if the right person knew what the F@#k you were talking about. Cutsy post though!
Thanks for wasting my (and look at all the people who looked at your post!) time!!
Why can't people be more specific? It's not just you-just venting.

And before I'm flamed- I seriously can't be the only one with this gripe!

Sorry, pet peeve (that is something that bothers you but might not bother others)
I am not 17, do not have a whole lot of time to waste, and would expect others to post accordingly. I can say this based on the # of views v.s. replies.
My guess is a lot of other people were wondering what you needed, and thought-oh, can't help. Where a more specific BRAKE post might be in order.
My mistake.
Enjoy the site!

alright, so i got the front brakes done! we used this device my friend made which was like a wheel puller. those bastards were on there, but we got them off without beating the crap out of the tire/rim.

how do i get the brake replacement light cleared from my dash? we switched the brake sensor to the new pads (the only one we found was on the left front) but the light still comes on. something i overlooked?

i may have to start a new thread for this. apparently im not marketing my topics well enough. im still awaiting the call from my producer to okay which topic title im going to use from the ad-department. CT? little help? [thumb]

The sensor was most likely worn through and needs to be replaced. You should replace them whenever you change pads.

Sorry, I guess I just have less time on my hands than most, and would like a more specific post-didn't know I was a minority. Glad everything worked out with Scooter's problem.

BMWs have two brake sensors, left front and right rear. Check the rear brakes.

BTW A way to check the brakes without taking the tire off is to look at the caliper on the inside of the tire and see how far toward the wheel the inside pad has moved from the outside of the caliper. More space=less pad.

for those who don't want to purchase a wheel puller, i'd suggest a rubber mallet. sledge hammers and feet can damage your wheels a lot more than a rubber mallet.

I used my feet and the concrete, but the jack ended up bending in the process. The stock jack is not good at all. The rim can get frozen on after a few years, that is what happened to mine, mainly the front ones. Off the topic, but has anyone used a bottle jack on their E36? If so, where are some good jacking points for a bottle jack?

i'd never do anything but maybe change a tire in an emergency with a stock jack. and if i did use it in my garage, i'd be sure to jack it up only enough to slide a jack stand underneath. just my $0.02, and yes off topic as well, sorry.
