How do I use my Tiptronic right?

I have a 1996 bmw 328i, which I love and have taken excellent care of. Almost ten years old and 122k miles. Almost perfect paint (little rust spot under the rear passenger wheel well) new enkei rims and cooper tires. Pristine interior.

So it has the Tiptronic and I have never really used it for fear of ruining something or jacking up the trans. Well, I just replaced the trans last fall and 3 grand later. I would like to be able to use the tiptronic for fun. How do you use that system, while also being careful and not ruining anything.

When you refer to tiptronic, is it the same as the steptronic style transmission? In that case you just push the lever towards you in Sport mode, or using the + and - you can up and downshift. Since it's an automatic I doubt the computer will let you damage the engine by revving too high.

I don't think you can damage an automatic transmission unless you drop it in park while it's moving, or shift from drive to reverse while in motion...
