After reading the question about a manual transmission, I was wondering--when should I expect to need to replace my clutch (325ic - 5 speed manual). Oh, and how much does it cost?

I know it depends on types of miles driven, driving style etc, but I would like to get a general idea. My car just hit 85K.

Thanks

From my experience, the clutch usually replaced 80k-90k. But like you said, it depends on the driver. My Porsche 944 had the clutch replaced for the first time at 130k. It still had clutch plate left, but the rubber absorption block failed.

The only car I ever replaced a clutch in was my 1st car-a 1969 Opel Gt w/ a zillion miles on her-I was 5th owner and knew how to shift having had a few dirt bikes. (I blame it on P.O.'ers)
I've only had 2 auto trans. since then, and MANY standards! A few exceeding 150K.
Don't tell me BMW has a weak clutch!!! Jeesh, I just hit 148K and still going strong!!! Am I overdue somehow????
