Hi,

I have a 1997 328i and I was wondering how do you put the sunroof in the tilt position - so that it is open and tilted up a bit? I only have the buttons that slide it back and forth, but it stays inside the roof, it doesn't tilt. Is this just on my model or should they all tilt somehow?

yeh I know n00b question [B)]

Thanks.

When its closed, you should be able to get the rear to raise up if you press and hold the close button (the arrow pointing towards the front of the car). In order to get it back down, to the fully closed position, hold down the button with the arrow pointing towards the rear. At least this is how it is on my e36. Hope this helped.

Hey thanks that worked! Now is it possible to both tilt and open it? because once i tilt, and press the open button it just closes the tilt. Maybe I have to open it fully and then press the open button again? Well not gonna try that now its raining.
But thanks for the help, I'm loving this car more with each minute [:D]

yep you cant tilt and open. Although im looking for someone here whos willing to take the challenge in my car and change my sunroof+mechanism to allow for a glass sunroof, with tilt-slide as well. It would be expensive and would also require a lot of custom fabrication but theres alot of talented folk out there im sure someone is going to be able to do it!

Ok, so then the inevitable next question, what is the tilt function for then? Is it just for looks? because I can't see why it would be useful otherwise.

Ventilation - When it's really hot outside it helps vent the hot air. In ottawa probably not as useful as when your in Oklahoma or Texas with 100F temperatures

Both my front and rear sunroofs in the rover have it, and so does the MBZ, its great when its humid, but not too hot outside, just enough to let a little breeze in, and cool you to the right temp =D.

Yup, especially on the highway, just enough air rushes in through it and you get a little bit of a breeze without much noise. Also when parked, as others said, lets the hot air out.
