Help! I have an E36 320i SE Sedan, and the guages on the dashboard are driving me insane! The fuel, speedo, rev counter, temp guage and oddometer keep intermittantly switching themselves off. It will work fine for several miles then start going off and coming back on again. The actual dashboard illumination does not fail when the guages do, and the obc and stereo are also unaffected. The car has been to an auto electrician who couldn't find a fault, but suggested replacing the pcb at the back of the dash as this corrected a similar problem but not the same problem on a car they had recently checked.

Has anyone experienced this problem? Possibly a bad earth??? Where to start looking though.

If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciaited

Had exacly the same problem, search this forum for what I found... I think you have to replace the cluster... but not sure, I crashed my car before I had a chance to figure it out... Anyway on the schematics I had I traced all of the gauges to one point which was the ground... try reconnecting the ground to another point... the wires from the cluster go behind your kicker panel try Ill tell you tommorow which cable exacly you are looking for.
