K&N FIPKs air intakes

I have a '97 328i which runs great. Does anyone have experience with any aftermarket air intake systems such as K&N's FIPK II? Do they improve performance, or are they just a waste of $250? Most of my driving is on the highway.http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=57-1000

If it comes with a shield, it's probably worth it. If not, then it'll decrease HP.

Though I find it EXTREMELY hard to believe they got a HP gain of 8 hp!

Regarding the 8hp......in the fine print it says they were testing an M3.....I missed that the first time. That may make a bit of a difference for us non-M3 owners.

I'm willing to bet the M3 gains weren't even nearly that much, maybe at one rpm but still.... an M car will have a very well designed airbox to begin with.

Few days ago I removed the K&N element from the airbox. I made a lot of swaps between the OEM and K&N during a year and there isn't any noticeable power gain. What you will obtain, for sure, is a huge engine wear.

Don't waste your money, instead buy a Conforti's Shark injector and reprogram your ECU's firmware.

A friend in Bogotá, Colombia used K&N filters for his motorcycles and experienced a premature engine wear, hi claim that the engine wear was at least 40% more than with the OEM paper filter. The wear wasn't measured itself, he just observed that he must overhaul the engine much earlier than with the OEM filter he used before.

Any way, there is many articles that demostrates a no or minimal power gain when you use K&N filters.
