Just purchased a 1995 525I for my son. It has the BMW keyless remote system in it. But the keypads were lost. Does any body know how to program the a new keyless entry remote with out going to the dealer. The dealer is very proud of this service.

Thanks: David

I have a 95 525 also. This information is directly from the Security System Owners Manual. Check to see if the car came with one. The instructions start on page 6. I have done this myself.

1. Remove the top cover of the transmitter (i.e. the remote).
2. Slide the chip socket holder forward.
3. Gently pull the micro chip out of its socket. This chip will be used for coding the control unit.
4. Remove the control unit from its bracket. Do not remove the power connector. Note: the alarm control unit is located under the rear seat. This is fairly easy to remove.
5. While holding the control unit facing downward, remove the programming access cover. Insert the micro chip removed in step 3 into the control unit’s chip socket (with the label side up). Push the socket holder back to secure the chip.
6. Press the RESET button. The status LED will flash twice to indicate that the code has been accepted.
7. Remove the micro chip from the control unit and re-install the micro ship back into the transmitted. Insert the chip (with the label side up) into the socket. Push the socket holder back to secure the chip.
8. Replace the top cover of the transmitter.
9. Replace the control unit’s programming access cover. Reinstall the control unit and confirm that all the connectors are connected properly.
10. Replace the rear seat.

I got the same problem. Instead of buying a new remote keypad, I bought an aftermarket keyless entry system from AutoLoc (Bavarian). It's about $130. It was awesome and very easy to install. You can refer to the following site and you can find a better deal at E-bay I guess. Good luck! http://www.bavauto.com/shop.asp
