Loud test drive

Hey everyone

Been reading on here for a while but this is my first post.

I test drove a 94 325i today with 107K miles on it. This was my first time driving a BMW and it seemed really loud inside. Like there wasn't enough sound dampening or maybe engine or maybe tranny probs, but definately ran very loud. Sounded good on the outside but above normal sound level inside. My dad test drove a new 5 series and he said it was silent inside while driving.

Just wondering if this car had a problem or if Bimmers are just kinda loud inside when driving.

Thanks for any feedback!

Hope to be an owner soon [:D]

Welcome to bmwboard. I do not think that being loud on the inside is normal. Either the exhaust has been modified and/or some soound dampening material has been removed by the previous owner.

Thanks for the welcome.

I think it might have been something with the tranny cause my dad said he had a Datsun pickup and it sounded just like the Bimmer did when his tranny went out.

It sounded like when you see a guy driving his pickup through a parking lot and the engine is just roaring away cause he's flooring it in first gear.

Well I wasn't planning on buying that one anyway, just wanted to get a better feel for the cars in general. I love em! Can't wait til i get one of my own.
