Hello. I have an '04 M3 Convertible and absolutely love it. However, I am currently experiencing one "problem" that definitely mitigates my enjoyment while driving the car with the top down.
When I start to drive about over 70 mph (and no one sitting in the rear seats) the rear seatbelts start to flap and jump around violently. They essentially just come loose from the retaining clip and just jump all over the place and keep hitting the rear seats. This creates a really loud slapping noise that is terribly annoying. Even while blasting the radio, the noise is still quite prevalent. When I drive in excess of 100 mph the noise just becomes unbearable.
Also, this flapping is not only annoying. It has caused noticeable wear on the seatbelts around the area in which the seatbelt fits into the plastic retaining clip. They are definitely starting to fray. I only have about 2500 miles on my car and I fear that if this continues serious damage will occur to the seatbelts.
Now my question is, has anyone else experienced this problem? Also, is there any remedy for it? Has BMW sought a solution to this problem or am I the only one with this problem? I was thinking of just simply using some duct tape to elimanate the flapping. However, I will ask around first to see what other people have done before I succumb to such a crude resolution.
Thanks in advance!
