Mounting 6x9's in a 325is 94

Well, I have only owned my 325is for a couple weeks and I just can't stand the existing sound system! It had the crappy nokia speakers that can't produce any bass at all.

Anyway, I installed my new pioneer head unit. That alone helped some but still if i crank it up any the nokia's get to what they are best at, distorting.

Then I installed some 5 1/4" pioneers (100 peak, 35 RMS) 2ways in the kick pannels. That helped a good bit also, but I'm still not getting any decient kick.

Do you guys suggest any specific speaker size for the rear? I don't want to have to mod the mounts or build a fully custom box. From a few places I've heard that they stock nokias in the back are 4"ers. But also i've seen many places that said that people have been putting 6" infiniti's in the rear and didn't mention any boxing or moding at all.

Also, i have some 6x9s sitting in another car that are quite nice but i don't know if i could mount them. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi,
Was thinking about putting a single 6x9 behind the arm rest on the rear bench...would a) look pretty cool and b) would push the sound straight through to where its wanted (unless i have 4 passengers!). Anyone any suggestions as to which channel would be good for it to be connected too?
Cheers

Awesome, thanks SaintCornelius!

I dont know, wantanM3. It sounds like it might work well and give you a little extra. Just make sure you have the wattage to push it. :) Another worry would be cutting your car up. ;) That and making sure people know not to step on the thing!

I was messing around with the 6x9's that i have and i think if i raise the mounting position with some wood by making a nice wood mount the 6x9's would fit nicely. Give them a nice stain finish and they would look really nice.

Sound alright?

you dont want 6x9's. a) they are cheaply made...b) they have uneven stress points, thus they wear and tear faster, as well as sound worse...c) they dont produce "bass" frequencies. the only thing that is designed to reproduce a frequency in the bass categopry it a subwoofer. speakers that are 6.5" or less are generally designed for mid bass frequencies. HUGE difference. tweeters play the highs. yes, 6x9's do sound like they produce good bass, but in reality they dont. i think 6x9's personally look terrible, most companies put chrome all over them (it adds up to 10 db's you know!!!) i cant stand it.

i've got these in my 328. http://www.infinitysystems.com/caraudio/product.aspx?ProdId='KAPPA693.5I'&Ser=KAP&Cat=MEL i play them alone on the regular and people always ask if i had a pair of 8's in the trunk. at this point i crank up my subs and say "nah, they're 12's!!!". my 6x9's produce amazing bass, probably two times louder and lower than my old hk system had, and that's running with power from just the receiver. you have to install them correctly to get the best sound. i fabricated a couple of pieces of wood together with a metal hinge to hold mine up. they produce amazing sound!!!!

jszar, your right. The 6x9's are temporary. I just wanted something other than the stupid 4" nokias and these were just sitting around... I swear it sounded like i had a monkey in the trunk cranking a music box...

Ended up mounting the 6x9's under the rear deck and using the hole from the old nokia 4" and tweeter. Filled up the extra space with foam. They sound great. It will never beat a good old 10" woofer, but its definantly a start.

:)
